Chapter 15 About the Feast of Tabernacles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nChapter 1 Why Did God Put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden?<\/h2>\n
When God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden, did He know that Adam and Eve would eat of it, or not?<\/p>\n
We cannot say that the omniscient and omnipotent God, who had declared the end from the beginning, was unaware of it (Isa 46:10). If God knew, He must have intended Adam and Eve to sin; for the serpent that tempted them to sin was also made by God. As it is written:<\/p>\n
Ge 3:1-5 \u300eNow the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made.\u300f<\/p>\n
It was also God who hardened Pharaoh\u2019s heart and made the Israelites undergo severe sufferings in Egypt. As it is written:<\/p>\n
Ex 9:15-16; Ro 9:17-18 \u300e\u201c. . . But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.\u201d\u300f<\/p>\n
Therefore, it is certain that God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil to make Adam and Eve sin by eating from it; where sin increased, grace increased all the more. For Adam and Eve, it was a command \u201cnot to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.\u201d Where there is no command, there is no sin (Ro 5:13).<\/p>\n
Chapter 2 The Law Was Established So That the Trespass Might Increase<\/h2>\n
Why did God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and make Adam and Eve sin by eating from it? It is because God wanted them to be delivered from sin and enter eternal glory. In the Garden of Eden, eternal life was not guaranteed, but conditional. If sinners are redeemed through the blood of Jesus, eternal life is no longer conditional but guaranteed. For it is written:<\/p>\n
Rev 21:4 \u300eHe will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain . . .\u300f<\/p>\n
The law established in the Garden of Eden or on Mount Sinai eventually caused men to sin and put them to death. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was a law in the Garden of Eden, and the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. By the way, the Bible says that God established the law so that sin might increase.<\/p>\n
Ro 5:20-21 \u300eThe law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.\u300f<\/p>\n
In other words, eternal life is not guaranteed until we are redeemed from death through the blood of Jesus. What matters is the blood of Jesus. Without Jesus\u2019 blood, there can be no perfection. The Apostle Paul wrote about the commandment:<\/p>\n
Ro 7:10-11 \u300eI found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death.\u300f<\/p>\n
The devil has been deceiving the whole world since the Garden of Eden, watching for a chance: Taking advantage of Adam\u2019s absence, he deceived Eve into eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; she gave it to Adam and he ate it, and they came to die (Ge 3:1-5).<\/p>\n
So, we can see that neither the creation in the Garden of Eden nor the law on Mount Sinai was perfect. God is still in the process of creating the perfect. As it is written:<\/p>\n
Jn 5:17 \u300eJesus said to them, \u201cMy Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.\u201d\u300f<\/p>\n
Jesus spoke the above words, because the Jews blamed Him for doing the work of creating the perfect even on the Sabbath day.<\/p>\n
Then, when will God\u2019s work of creating the perfect finish? It is written in Genesis 1 that God finished His work of creation in six days and rested from it. In regard to this, the Apostle Paul wrote an interpretation as follows in the next chapter.<\/p>\n
Chapter 3 The Sabbath Day and the Sabbath of a Thousand Years<\/h2>\n
Heb 4:3-6 \u300eAnd yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: \u201cAnd on the seventh day God rested from all his work.\u201d And again in the passage above he says, \u201cThey shall never enter my rest.\u201d It still remains that some will enter that rest . . . \u300f<\/p>\n
It is written, \u201c \u2018And on the seventh day God rested from all his work.\u2019 And again in the passage above he says, \u2018They shall never enter my rest.\u2019 It still remains that some will enter that rest\u201d: The Apostle Paul interpreted \u2018that rest\u2019 as the eternal rest coming after six thousand years of human history. The Sabbath day after six days and the Sabbath year after six years are a prophecy of the things to come. In the Bible, sometimes a day is counted as a year or as a thousand years for the fulfillment of a prophecy (Nu 14:34; Eze 4:6).<\/p>\n
2 Pe 3:8 \u300eBut do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.\u300f<\/p>\n
The Sabbath day (every seventh day) or the Sabbath year (every seventh year) shows that there will be the Sabbath of a thousand years after six thousand years of human history. In the book of Revelation, it is written that Satan will be locked in the Abyss for a thousand years, and that the saints will reign [rest] for a thousand years (Rev 20:1-6). Therefore, the fact that God rested after the six days of creation shows that He will enter eternal rest after the six thousand years of the perfect creation, along with the redeemed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd again in the passage above he says, \u2018They shall never enter my rest.\u2019 It still remains that some will enter that rest\u201d: The Apostle John described \u201centering that rest\u201d as \u201creigning for a thousand years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Therefore, Adam and Eve were not the complete, but just a model for the complete, because there was potential for them to sin and die. The Apostle Paul wrote about the complete and the incomplete as follows:<\/p>\n
1 Co 15:44-53 \u300eit is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: \u201cThe first man Adam became a living being\u201d; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man [Adam] was of the dust of the earth, the second man [Jesus] from heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven . . .\u300f<\/p>\n
In other words, Adam was not the spiritual\u2015the complete, but an incomplete being with a natural body formed from the dust of the earth.
