Today, many Christians believe that the day when Jesus comes a second time will be Judgment Day. They believe when Jesus comes a second time, the world will be destroyed and God’s people will go to Heaven. Is this true?
How will the faith of God’s people stand when Jesus comes a second time? “ ‘[W]hen the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?’ ”(Lk 18:8) When Jesus comes a second time, He will not find faith. If Jesus comes a second time to bring the Last Judgment to the world where there is no faith, who will be saved? No one will be saved.
Therefore, the day when Jesus comes a second time is not Judgment Day. Jesus is to come a second time into the world where there is no faith, and restore faith to God’s people. After that, there will be the Last Judgment.
Let's compare between the appearance of Jesus at the Last Judgment and that of Jesus at His second coming. Today, when people think of Jesus coming a second coming, they imagine Him as the Last Judge. This is how they imagine Him.
“[T]he LORD is coming with fire, . . . will execute judgment upon all men, . . .” (Isa 66:15–16). “[W]hen the Lord Jesus is revealed . . . in blazing fire . . . He will punish . . .” (2 Th 1:7–10). When Jesus comes as the Last Judge, He will come with the fire to judge and punish.
However, the appearance of Jesus at His second coming is different. “ ‘They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. . . . And he will . . . gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other’ ” (Mt 24:30).
So Jesus’ second coming and the Last Judgment are different in terms of appearance, purpose, and time.
We hope you will be saved by receiving Jesus who comes a second time in the flesh before the Last Judgment (Heb 9:28).
