There are many interpretations and opinions on the question, “Is God Jehovah Jesus?” It is because God Jehovah who created the heavens and the earth and divided the Red Sea, and Jesus who was born as the son of a carpenter and lived in the flesh like one of us, look very different. People do not easily believe that Jesus is God Jehovah. However, if we compare the Bible records about God Jehovah and Jesus, we can confirm that the Son Jesus in the New Testament times is God the Father Jehovah in the Old Testament times.
The Savior Jehovah & Jesus
The Savior who appears in the Old Testament is God Jehovah. In the Old Testament, it is written that there is no Savior but Jehovah.
“I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.” Isa 43:11
However, in the New Testament, it is written that there is no Savior except Jesus.
He [Jesus] is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else.” Ac 4:11
If God Jehovah and Jesus were different, one of the two records would be wrong and there would be a contradiction in the Bible. However, the records of the Bible are correct. It is because Jesus is Jehovah who came to this earth in the flesh. Since Jehovah and Jesus are the same, the words that there is no Savior but Jehovah and that there is no Savior except Jesus are the same.
God the Father Would Be Born as a Child
The Old Testament prophesied that God the Father would be born as a child and sit on David’s throne.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace . . . He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever . . . Isa 9:6–7
This means that the Father Jehovah will be born as a child and sit on David’s throne. However, the New Testament testifies that Jesus fulfilled this prophecy.
“[Y]ou will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus . . . The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” Lk 1:30–33
The angel said that Jesus would be born as a child through Mary and sit on David’s throne. Therefore, God the Father Jehovah is Jesus; He was born as a child, a son, and sat on David’s throne according to the prophecy of Isaiah 9 that was recorded 700 years before His birth.
Jehovah, the Lord of the Sabbath, Is Jesus
After the Creation in six days, God Jehovah rested on the seventh day and appointed that day as the Sabbath Day, and commanded to keep it holy (Ge 2:2–3; Ex 20:8–11). The Lord of the Sabbath, who blesses those who keep the Sabbath, is God Jehovah. That is why the Sabbath is described as the “LORD [Jehovah]’s Sabbath” in the Old Testament.
“Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my [Jehovah] Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.’ ” Ex 31:13
However, in the New Testament, it is written that Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.
“For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” Mt 12:8
Therefore, Jehovah and Jesus are the same; Christ Jesus is God the Creator. Nevertheless, if they insist that Jehovah and Jesus are different, it is to deny one of the words, “Jehovah’s Sabbath” and “Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.” In other words, it is to deny the Creator who came to this earth in the flesh to save us.
Jehovah, the Alpha and the Omega, Is Jesus
In Revelation 1, God Jehovah refers to Himself as the Alpha and the Omega.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” Rev 1:8
In the New Testament, the word “Lord God” refers to God Jehovah. In Revelation 4, we can see that the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come, is God Jehovah—the Creator who sits on the throne of heaven and receives glory from the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders for ever and ever (Rev 4:8–11). The fact, “The ‘Lord God’ in Revelation 1:8 is God Jehovah,” cannot be denied even by Jehovah’s Witnesses who claim that the Father and the Son are different. The “Lord God” is specified as Jehovah even in their New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.
Therefore, Revelation 1:8 mean that God Jehovah is the Alpha and the Omega. Here, Alpha is the first letter of the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet and Omega is the last letter, which means that God Jehovah is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. This has been emphasized since the Old Testament times (Isa 44:6). However, in Revelation 22, there is another One who says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Rev 22:13
According to the words we have looked at so far, “I” here must be God Jehovah, but in the following verses, it is written that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End . . . I, Jesus . . . I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” Rev 22:13–16
In the book of Revelation which was written by the same hand, chapter 1 says that God Jehovah is the Alpha and the Omega, and chapter 22 says that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega. Doesn’t it mean that God Jehovah and Jesus are the same? If Jesus is not God the Father but only the Son, He can never be called the Alpha. It’s because if the father is the alpha, the first, the son born by the father must be later than that. The Bible clearly says that Jesus is the Alpha, the First. This is manifest evidence to prove that Jesus is God Jehovah.
Although Jesus appeared as the son of a humble carpenter and lived the same life as man’s, He is God the Father who is the Alpha and the Omega. The reason Jesus called Himself “Son” is that He did not reveal the glory of God but became flesh like His children, mankind. However, those who correctly understand Him through the Bible will admit that Jesus is God in nature (Php 2:5; Ro 9:5).
Jesus, the Savior, came to the earth and established the New Covenant, the law of the forgiveness of sin. He was born as a child and sat on David’s throne. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, the Alpha and the Omega. The Bible testifies that He is God Jehovah.
