Heavenly Family: Our Relationship With God

14095 읽음

Christians call God “Father” because Jesus taught that God is our Father in Heaven (Mt 6:9). Do you think Jesus said this because there is only God the Father?

Father is a title used at home. A father has a child, and the child has a mother who gave birth to them. The Bible testifies that because there is an earthly family, there is also a heavenly family where there is God the Father, God the Mother, and Their children.

Earthly Family Is a Copy and Shadow of the Heavenly Family

They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” Heb 8:5

In the Old Testament times, God commanded Moses to build the earthly sanctuary according to the pattern of the heavenly sanctuary. The purpose was to help the Israelites understand the invisible heavenly sanctuary through the earthly one. The same will of God is reflected in the family system as well. God created the earthly family system as a copy and shadow to help us easily understand the heavenly family that we cannot see.

Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Heb 12:9

The Bible takes the example of human fathers to teach us about our duty to our spiritual Father. This shows that earthly fathers are a copy and shadow of God the Father, who is the reality.

Members of the Heavenly Family

A father is a man who has a child. For a man to be called “father,” he must have a child; likewise, the fact that God is called “Father” means that He has children.

“Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord . . . I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Co 6:17–18

The Bible says that believers are God’s sons and daughters. Can a father alone have a child? No, he cannot. It is a mother who conceives and ultimately gives life to the child. Without a mother, children do not exist; without children, a man cannot have the title of father. The title father means that there are children and a mother; likewise, the title God the Father proves the existence of God the Mother.

But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. Gal 4:26

The word “above” means “in Heaven.” With certainty, the Bible testifies that there is God the Mother. The earthly family shows us that we have the heavenly family that consists of Heavenly Father, heavenly children, and Heavenly Mother.

Heavenly Mother Gives Eternal Life

Everyone in this world has a mother. Certainly, there must be a father, but a mother plays the key role of a life-giver. This is true for all living things such as birds, fish, and animals. God created all things according to His will, and made the earthly things a copy and shadow of what is in Heaven (Rev 4:11; Heb 8:5). What is God’s will for children to receive life from their mothers? It is to show us that eternal life is given by God the Mother as well as God the Father.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness . . .” Ge 1:26

People have understood God only as a male image, and called Him God the Father. If God the Father is the only Creator who made humankind, He should have said, “Let me make man in my image, in my likeness.” Rather than saying this, God used the terms “us” and “our.” Why did He say “us” and “our”? The following verse tells us the reason.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Ge 1:27

God created human beings in His own image and likeness. As a result, men and women were created. This means that God exists in both a male image and a female image. If we have called the male image of God “Father,” what should we call the female image of God? We should call Her “Mother.” Since the beginning, the Bible testified about the existence of God the Mother, who gives eternal life. Therefore, we must believe in both God the Father and God the Mother as the Bible testifies.

Believing in God the Father and God the Mother is not enough for us to belong to the heavenly family. In this world, parents and children are related by blood; likewise, we must receive God’s blood to become God’s true children. For this reason, Jesus brought us the Passover of the New Covenant, the truth that enables us to inherit God’s blood.

When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” . . . after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Lk 22:14–15, 20

What represents Jesus’ blood? It is the Passover wine. We can inherit God’s blood by keeping the Passover. The Passover of the New Covenant is a precious truth that allows us to become heavenly children.

When we become God’s children, we also become God’s heirs who will inherit the eternal Kingdom of Heaven (Ro 8:16–17). Some people define the relationship between God and His people as a master-servant relationship, but this thought contradicts the Bible. According to the Bible, God is our spiritual Father and spiritual Mother, and we are God’s children related by spiritual blood. The way to be part of the heavenly family, who will enjoy eternal happiness in the glorious Kingdom, is to believe in God the Father and God the Mother and keep the Passover of the New Covenant.
